Decoration Tips, Advice, And Product Reviews
When you want to furnish your bedroom, you have three main choices – flat pack furniture (ala carte), fitted bedroom furniture, or custom bedroom furniture. Picking standalone flat pack furniture is pretty straightforward and does not need further description. But the advantages and disadvantages of fitted furniture vis-a-vis custom furniture are not so clear, especially nowadays. When comparing these two different types of bedroom furniture, the following four points are important: availability, cost, looks, and versatility.
1. Availability: Generally speaking, custom bedroom furniture is easy to get if you live in a small town, but becomes increasingly expensive in larger towns and may not even be available in cities. On the other hand, the reverse is true of fitted bedroom furniture.
2. Cost: Most people think that custom bedroom furniture is very expensive. Most of these people have never lived in small towns or gone out of the country. If they had, they would know that getting a decent carpenter to build bespoke furniture for their bedrooms is not really expensive, especially if they get customized pine bedroom furniture.
If you live in the city, fitted bedroom furniture can sometimes be cheaper. However, they are normally made of plywood and medium density fiberboard instead of solid wood. This means they do not last as long as custom furniture made of pine. But that assumes they are cheaper. The trouble is that a lot of fitted furniture is branded, which makes them more expensive. In addition to that, you end up having to pay a trained technician from the furniture shop to install it for you, which adds to the cost.
3. Looks: “Which furniture looks better?” is what many people like to ask. The answer is: “It depends.” The truth is that looks are dependent on your taste and how much cash you are willing to fork over for the bedroom furniture. But one point must be noted: the design of your custom bedroom furniture is limited only by your imagination. In fact, it is largely dependent on your imagination.
4. Versatility: Do you have an odd-shaped bedroom or very particular requirements? If you do, you may need to get custom bedroom furniture. However, most modern homes are built using what are practically cookie-cutter designs. The shapes and dimensions of the bedrooms almost always fall within certain ranges that can be covered by typical fitted bedroom furniture designs.
Functionally, both fitted bedroom furniture and custom bedroom furniture are the same. As can be seen above, which one you buy largely depends on where you live – you can probably get custom furniture more easily and cheaply in a small town, but can only find fitted furniture in the city.
