One of the most popular and more practical styles for the average American farm home today is the painted farmhouse kitchen table. These tables are generally assembled from reclaimed wood. Pickle barrels, old barns, and granaries are just a few places where this vintage wood can be found. Inventors had a great idea to make something new out of something used, and painted farmhouse tables were created.  They serve as an ordinary dining table, or a wonderful area for family memories to be made. These tables have been known to become precious heirlooms that stay in one family for decades.

Thanks to the wood used to make the tables, they come out looking like beautiful antiques. The tables withstand the test of time to age gracefully, while keeping a simplistic and classic look. Reclaimed wood has brought about a new way to give a weathered and textured appearance to a unique pattern. Picture a piece of furniture that appears to share the story of a farmer that lived a century ago. Now picture it being brand new. Farmhouse tables bear instant antiquity.

Thick, sold chunks of wood are brought in and used to erect these masterpieces, including such fine woods as black walnut, maple, and white oak. The pieces go through a rigorous process before they can be assembled. First and foremost, anything harmful must be driven out, such as nails. The wood is then re-cut, exposing the intricate patterns on the inside. Finally it is heated, typically in kilns. This removes potential insects, fungus, or mold, which may be hiding inside.

Many people agree that wood is most eye-catching when it appears to be in distress. There are two sure ways of creating this effect. The quickest way is to pummel the outside using chains or hammers. The second way takes a lot longer, but produces a finer appearance for any table. Typically done by woodworkers, the rotting areas of wood are scraped off by hand to show the beautiful layer underneath.

Once these steps are complete, wood is then made into a table top. The surface is first sanded, and then hand painted. The finishing touch is of course the wax, preserving everything underneath. An ideal choice for kitchen seating, painted farmhouse kitchen tables come out perfect every time. They are environmentally friendly and will last for many years. Each buyer possesses a true original piece of history.
