Any project involving bathroom remodeling can quickly become expensive if you plan on replacing everything in it. If you want to save some money, however, there are jobs you can do quite easily by yourself which can transform the look of your bathroom. Such jobs include, making a bathroom mirror look new and modern, patching up rust holes in the bathtub and refinishing an old countertop. A remodeling project is easy with these ideas.

Eliminating Holes and Rust Stains:

Bathroom Renovation IdeasGetting rid of signs of aging and wear and tear such as rust, water stains and limescale is a good place to start to begin to give your bathroom a brighter, fresher look. One of my favorite cleaners for this job is Lysol Power Toilet Bowl cleaner. I would normally follow this up with a rust and limescale remover.

Holes and cracks in the bathtub or shower can be repaired using a compound such as The Bondo Tub and Shower repair kit. Any unevenness in the color of the surface of your toilet, tub or shower can be treated with the Oleum Tub and Tile Refreshing kit which will rejuvenate your surfaces. Yous should find that most good general home improvement stores will stock these products.

Remodeling an Old Countertop:

The next area that can easily be improved is the old tarnished countertop. To paint it, it is important to first lightly sand to apply a key to the surface which allows the paint to stick, Then apply two coats of a primer and allow around thirty minutes of drying between each coat. Next apply three shades of an acrylic paint using a sea sponge to create a faux finish. If the surface is tile or porcelain, I would advise using a gloss paint.

Remodeling an Old Mirror:

Renovating the bathroom mirror is an inexpensive but effective bathroom remodeling idea to consider. It is easy to build a simple frame for your old mirror to hide and chips, stains or other marks. If you are looking to replace your old mirror than you could buy two cheap mirrors and build a simple frame for each of them. Placing them side by side on the wall gives a really modern look.

To add the final finish, I would advise painting the bathroom walls. Using the sea sponge faux technique, as mentioned earlier, apply warm, soothing colors to the walls. Don’t forget painting the ceiling though. To prevent the build up of mold and mildew it is worth buying waterproof paint that is recommended for bathrooms. They often contain an anti-fungal in the paint.
