There have been a lot of innovations in bathroom design in recent years, in particular with the introduction of new materials and shapes in bathroom sinks. These designs above all else have contributed to the interest in the design of the bathroom as a whole to take in all the other aspects of the room from lighting to mirrors, and from shower cubicles to vanity units. We are no longer content to have a room which is merely clean and functional. It must look good too and it must make us feel good to spend time there.

Glass bathroom sinks have become more and more popular in comparison to white porcelain ones. They are made of specially toughened glass and are normally opaque so that smears of soap do not immediately make the bathroom look dirty. (No one wants to spend their whole time cleaning the sink!) You will also find bathroom sinks in a mixture of materials. Look out for those which are a mixture of both glass and stainless steel as well as sinks which are made purely of one or the other.

In addition, you will find sinks of reconstituted stone material which give a contemporary look to the bathroom with an age old material.

The new style sinks have been created in all kinds of shape and forms from a stainless steel wall trough in a multi-sink configuration that you sometimes see in ultra contemporary public rest rooms to vessel sinks which are like a bowl standing on a vanity unit or shelf.

Faucets, like everything else in the bathroom, are changing too to go with these new style sinks. No longer can you expect the faucets to be attached to the sink but you will often find them coming out of the wall above the sink with pipework hidden behind a false wall.
