One of the more popular space saving methods for home gardening is vertical gardening. This is simply designing your garden so that many of the plants that would otherwise grow horizontally are able to grow vertically. Not only can it free up space in your garden, but it can actually allow you to plant a different spread of vegetables than you otherwise could.

Garden netting has been used for various uses in the garden, ranging from shading and protection to growth and vertical gardening applications. Trellis netting is typically designed in a wide grid and helps to provide a platform for the plant to anchor vertically.

Although there are a number of different ways to implement this sort of gardening technique into you own personal garden, the cost different between methods can be considerable. The only real difference in terms of the trellis is going to be aesthetic. As long as the structure is sufficiently strong to hold the weight of the plant and the basic structure for the plant to grasp onto is in place, plant growth will have little variance.

Using trellis netting for garden plantings is also an excellent way to conserve space. The ground coverage of plants such as melons, squash, and pumpkins can be considerable. Most people do not realize that plants of this nature can generally be grown vertically rather than horizontally. Because of the size of the fruit, most people fear that the trellis structure or even the plant will be unable to hold the weight. This is surprisingly not the case. You will find that as long as your trellis framework is sufficiently strong to support the weight, the plant will also be able to handle it.

Vertical gardening with trellis netting can open up an entire new range of possibilities for rooftop gardens or small yards. This can lead to a wider variety of vegetables in your garden and a more successful harvest.
