Home landscape lighting faciliates illuminating the exterior of residential property. In fact, landscape lighting is quite popular among some homeowners. Landscape lighting offer such applications as pathway lighting, deck lighting, and post lighting, among other options available. This article will briefly discuss two types of landscape lighting.

Light emitting diode, also known as LED, is a type of light that is energy efficient and is available in landscape lighting applications. These types of lights illuminate significantly longer than fluorescent and incandescent lighting. In other words, LEDs tend to have a long life. Moreover, LEDs do not burn out spontaneously at the end of their life. LEDs will start to dim when they are wearing out, instead of just burn out. White LEDs do not emit ultraviolet light, and consequently, bugs are not attracted to them. This factor can be a definite plus, when one is planning to use and enjoy the exterior of their home at night. However, LEDs do not shine as brightly when compared to incandescent lighting. Therefore, homeowners may want to be clear about how much lighting they wish to have in the area of their property they will be illuminating. Nonetheless, for some home lighting applications, LEDs may work well.

By comparison, solar lighting uses no electricity, since it uses the sun’s energy to provide the illumination. Solar lighting is quite popular in some areas of the country. It is important for consumers to keep in mind that an implicit requirement for the solar lighting to work as designed, is that it be installed where the solar panels receive abundant sunlight. Otherwise, this type of lighting system will not work well, if at all. Therefore, the solar panels must receive abundant sunlight and not be blocked from the sunlight by any obstacle, such as bushes, shrubs, trees, etc. Nonetheless, for homeowners who live in sunny locations, solar lighting may be the type of lighting system they wish to install on their property, to provide a type of illumination that does not contribute to their electricity bill.
