It can be quite a dilemma to choose a color scheme for your bedroom. Many of us choose a neutral color scheme because we are so confused about colors and what goes with what. Any discussion of color wheels and palettes seems alright in theory, and then when we are faced with paint charts, wallpaper books and carpet samples it does not seem so straightforward after all.
There is an easy solution to this problem however which can save you from a life living with nothing but “safe” neutral color schemes. It is to use the designer knowledge inherent in a beautiful patterned bedding set and make that the basis for a color scheme. You see bedding ensembles are designed by those with a fantastic eye for color. You will not like every design. But you can be sure that every design you like has a great balance of different colors.
All you need to do to get started is to choose a bedding ensemble. Pay a visit to your local department store to see a whole range of bedding on display or browse around on the web until you find a bedding ensembles site.
Once you have chosen a design you need to isolate each of the colors in it so pick out the various shades (at least the main ones) you can see. Then use these colors to choose the other items for your room. If you are buying carpet, choose a mid neutral shade from the pattern. Use a light color from the design for the walls. (Plain painted walls are best if you have patterned bedding) and another shade for soft furnishings such as curtains and table cloths. If there is a bright color in the design, this makes a great accent color and you might just use this for a couple of items such as scatter cushions and a throw or vase.
In this way you get not only a perfectly balanced color scheme but also perfectly coordinated bedding too.
