Determining the Folds

Lay out the material and cut the width of the shade plus 2” for the width and 8” in length. Attach the lining to the material allowing a ¾” seam.

The folds are important part of the body of the shade. You want to have the fold measured out to have at least four fold. Take the length of the shade and measure a 2” line for the top of the shade, then create four fold lines that are 8” to 12” for flaps and then a remaining 4” to 6” for the bottom of the shade.

To get the folds to not bunch up you need to create pocket that will be attached to the fold lines. Take the material a cut strips of 3” sew seams with a 3/4 measurement, then attack to the fold line. Slide dowels of battens into the pockets. Now, you need to sew on the rings. Lay the shade out flat and position the head rail so that the front of the board is facing down with the pulleys toward the bottom of the shade. Mark the location and baste them on.
