If you are just building your home you must have noticed that basswood is a material that can be used in all parts of your home. You can find it in flooring, roofing, as a material for furniture, and basically for anything that can be made out of wood. Why is this? Because in the United States it is readily available in all the parts of the country, and there are factories using it all over the world. It is a large tree that produces a lot of timber once it is cut down, and it is easily moldable – it is relatively soft. Also the grain is large so you will get a smooth surface.
The most common place to use this timber are basswood blinds that can be fitted between your windows, or inside the window. You can also find it in window shutters that are highly popular in the southern parts of the USA and also in southern Europe. The reason for their popularity is that the sun is hotter than in the north, and that way you can prevent it from shining in and warming the house almost completely. Window frames are also another use for basswood, and usually you can see shutters, blinds and frames that are matching.
Besides just the regular use in your home, basswood is also used in crafts quite a lot. The reason for this is that it is quite cheap, but also high quality, and it is not too hard to be crafted with your hands and a few simple tools. This makes it possible for anyone with a knife to carve up a statue or a mask from it. Even the mask that was used in the movie “This is The Mask” was made of basswood! So if you are bored of the people who sell these crafts at any tourist location, you have basswood to blame for it!
