In the last few years, survival seeds have been marketed to the masses. Radio show host like Glenn Beck have been pushing these packets and most of the manufacturers of these so called “survival seeds” have been playing off the fears of consumers due to the current economic climate.

But do these seed packs really give consumers a valuable product or are they just over priced, over hyped garden seeds that anyone can buy their self and store.

Well, as you probably guessed, most of the seeds in these packs are your ordinary run of the mill garden seed. Some are open pollinated seeds, better known as heirloom seeds, while others are just whatever seeds the people could buy the cheapest in bulk and resell.

And many of the so called storage vaults these so called survival seeds come in are nothing more than PVC pipe and many are poorly sealed. This will leave you with around $150 or worthless seeds should you ever try and bury the pipe!

If you really want to store you own seeds, then learn how to properly save them yourself. In fact, one of the most popular ways people save seeds is to buy them at huge discounts whenever the big retail stores have them on sale at the end of the season. Then all you do is place them in a waterproof container, preferably one that is durable and will not break, then put the container back and wait for the end of the world as we know it!

There are other ways as well. Amazon has many books on how to grow a garden, harvest the fruit and save the seeds for planting in the future. It’s really simple and you won’t have to spend a bunch of money on some so called survival seeds.
